Exuberant Crowds Attend At-Times Blustery Oktoberfest

Town Park crowds of Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Oktoberfest — capably coordinated by Holly Shepherd — on Saturday braved blustery weather with intermitant sunshine. 

8-year-old Zevkai Jones, Gunnison, displayed perseverance as first place winner in the children’s stein-holding contest while second place winner, 

4-year-old Dana Loper, looks ahead to Halloween.

Winner in the men’s log throwing competition with a tremendous 20’11.5” output was Ethan Wuest

repeat first place for women log throwers was Malie Kakazu, 

while second place women’s and men’s log tossers were Houston, Texas, trail hiker Casper 
, 10’3″

and Landon Whinnery, 19’2”. 

Winning beer chugging contest winners included repeat local gulpers Jackie Noelke, Drew Miller, Willie Merfeld, and Landon Whinnery 

Versatile Evansville, Indiana, visitor Heather Kelley was first place winner in the women’s nail pounding — Hammers-chlagen — competition,

Among keen men competitors for the Hammerschlagen “Golden Hammer” award were, Lake City’s Chris Hoedebeck, left, in first place and Lee Kissel (brother of multi-prize winner Heather Kelley), Evansville, Indiana, runner-up; 

focus and eye-on-the-prize by Hoedebeck and Kissel
