Fall’s Section II Fiberoptic Installation Extending North Nears End Next Two Weeks

Visionary Broadband’s contractor for underground fiberoptic installation, High Country Underground, is wrapping up Section II of this year’s work within the next two weeks.  Lake City’s long-awaited arrival of speedy fiberoptic is now a reality with the local system’s owner, Visionary Broadband, speedily signing up customers for much-enhanced broadband access, according to Cody Harrod, Visionary Broadband’s Vice President for Sales & Marketing.

In addition to Harrod, SILVER WORLD also spoke with High Country Underground Supervisor Corey Rosenberg who is so enthused with his summer’s work in Lake City that he has rented a house.

New fiberoptic cable now strung and buried throughout Town of Lake City allows internet speeds of up to one gig for custom-designed packages offered by Visionary Broadband for both residential and business customers.

High Country Underground workers continue visible in recent weeks as they trench, drill through unexpected layers of rock, and install conduit for the 144-count fiberoptic cable along a 4,500’ section adjacent to Highway 149 extending from town to a switching vault near the Toy Wash which will serve Hinsdale County Road & Bridge.

Underground vaults used as switching points, according to Rosenburg, are being installed at periodic points to the north of Lake City, including a vault planned just uphill from Quiet Moose Restaurant adjacent to Riverside Estates, as well as switching vaults in process at Highway 149’s juncture with Forest and Balsam Drives, also in Riverside Estates, and the county’s transfer station.  The Section II extension to the north of Lake City should be completed within the next two weeks.

Underground conduit installation for fiberoptic cable has included one instance of precision lateral underground drilling for conduit installation beneath Highway 149 asphalt at Lake City Visitors Center.  In tandem with High Country’s subsurface conduit and fiber installation, MasTec crews have now completed stringing aerial fiberoptic lines anchored to GCEA poles on alleyways throughout Lake City. * * *

Fiberoptic rates as offered by Visionary Broadband include residential rates of $83.90 for one gig service — router and connect application, no installation fee — according to Visionary Broadband’s Cody Harrod.

Visionary Broadband’s sales team offers individually tailored plans for small businesses, basics consisting of 100×100 for $103.90 per month, gigx100 $113.90, and gig-gig, $163.90.

Expansive Fiberoptic Coverage Within Town…

Visionary Broadband’s new fiberoptic network spans the width and breadth of town from its northern border extending south into Wade’s Addition at Wade’s Gulch and east-west from Bluff Street up through the Ball Flats. Separate extensions of the system connect with Hinsdale Road & Bridge to the north and Gunnison County Electric’s sub station on the flanks of Station 11 Mountain.
